Calumet runners shine on Preakness card

Brad Kelley’s Calumet Farm enjoyed a solid day Saturday, with Preakness Stakes runner-up Everfast preceded by a pair of homebred stakes winners on the card.
Calumet, which campaigned 2013 Preakness Stakes winner Oxbow, purchased Everfast for $47,000 as a short yearling at the 2017 Keeneland January horses of all ages sale. The Take Charge Indy colt was bred by Extern Developments and was consigned to the sale by Frankfort Park Farm. The colt has won once from 11 starts and finished second in the Grade 2 Holy Bull Stakes earlier this year. He closed from 11th in the Preakness to finish second at odds of 29-1.
Earlier in the day, Calumet homebreds Lexitonian and English Bee captured the Grade 3 Chick Lang Stakes and the James W. Murphy Stakes, respectively.
English Bee is by turf champion and Calumet stallion English Channel, who was represented by another stakes winner on a strong Saturday card when Mitchell Road captured the Grade 3 Gallorette Stakes.
