Calumet releases 2015 fees, stallion locations

DRF Breeding Staff|Dec 16, 2014

Calumet Farm, which has seen a rapid expansion in its stallion operation in recent years, has released its advertised fees and stallion locations for the 2015 breeding season. The Lexington, Ky.-based operation of owner Brad Kelley will be represented by stallions in five states, as well as Canada and Ireland.

Eight of those stallions will stand at the historic Calumet property in Lexington, which Kelley assumed control of in 2012. That roster is led by turf champion English Channel, who is advertised for $25,000 for his first season at Calumet after previously residing at Lane’s End Farm in Versailles, Ky. for the same fee. The 12-year-old son of Smart Strike debuted at Kelley’s Hurricane Hall Farm near Lexington in 2008 before relocating to Lane’s End for the 2010 season.

Also new to Calumet’s Kentucky stallion roster for 2015 is Preakness Stakes winner Oxbow, who stands for $17,500 after his 2014 debut at Taylor Made Stallions in Nicholasville, Ky. Other additions for Kentucky include Canadian champion Musketier, who comes from Adena Springs Canada in Aurora, Ontario to stand for $7,500; Breeders’ Cup Turf winner Red Rocks, who arrives from Centro Equino Arcadia in Italy and will stand for $12,500; and Ready’s Image, who comes from Walmac Farm in Lexington and stands for $5,000.

Among the Kentucky roster’s returning stallions, dual classic winner and champion Point Given will stand for $7,500 after standing for $10,000 in 2014, while Raison d’Etat will also stand for $7,500 after previously commanding $15,000.

Stallions moving from the Kentucky base to other regions include Aikenite, who will stand at Bridlewood Farm in Ocala, Fla., for $5,000; Canadian champion and classic winner Eye of the Leopard, who moves to Colebrook Farm in Uxbridge, Ontario and stands for $5,000 Canadian; and Melbourne Cup winner Americain, who will stand in Ireland for a fee to be determined later. Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Sprint winner Hightail will be advertised for $2,500 at Trophy Club Training Center in Royal, Ark.

Other stallions debuting as property of Calumet Farm in 2015 include Grade 2-placed French stakes winner Vertiformer, who will stand at Poplar Creek Horse Center in Bethel, Ohio for $2,000; and Irish classic winner Grey Swallow, who will stand in Ireland for a fee to be announced at a later time.
