California Chrome's juvenile sister makes debut Friday
A full sister to California Chrome, last year's Kentucky Derby winner and Horse of the Year, makes her debut in a 4 1/2-furlong maiden race for 2-year-old fillies Friday at Golden Gate Fields.
Hope's Love, a chestnut filly by Lucky Pulpit out of Love the Chase, is the 8-5 morning-line favorite in a field of 10, and will be ridden by Ricardo Gonzalez. She is owned and was bred by Perry Martin and Steve Coburn, the owner-breeders' of California Chrome. Hope’s Love is trained by Steve Sherman, son of California Chrome’s trainer, Art Sherman.
Hope's Love has had eight works leading up to her debut, all at Golden Gate, highlighted by a 47-second half-mile drill on May 3 which was the best of 67 workers at the distance. Her brother also made his debut at 4 1/2 furlongs, running second at Hollywood Park.
