California Chrome gallops ahead of travel to Dubai

California Chrome galloped 1 1/2 miles at Los Alamitos on Friday, continuing his preparation for a trip to Dubai next week in advance of the $10 million Dubai World Cup at Meydan Racecourse on March 26.
When California Chrome leaves, he will be flown to Dubai via Copenhagen and will have a 24-hour journey, trainer Art Sherman said on Friday.
California Chrome won the Grade 2 San Pasqual Stakes at Santa Anita on Jan. 9, in his first start since a second to Prince Bishop in the Dubai World Cup last March. This year, California Chrome will have a prep race in late February or early March before the Dubai World Cup.
The prep race has yet to be selected.
“I’m going to wait until he starts training there,” Sherman said.
California Chrome resumed racetrack training on Wednesday and will have a steady schedule of gallops before departing. Sherman said California Chrome has shown enthusiasm in training this week.
“He went really nicely,” Sherman said. “Everything is a go.”
California Chrome won the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes in 2014, and was voted Horse of the Year. California Chrome has won 10 of 19 starts and earned $6,442,650. He races for Perry Martin and Taylor Made Farm.
