California Chrome arrives at Santa Anita for BC Classic

ARCADIA, Calif. – California Chrome on Sunday had the kind of trip traveling from Los Alamitos to Santa Anita that those closest to him hope he has in the $6 million Breeders’ Cup Classic on Saturday.
“No traffic. Zipped right over,” said assistant trainer Alan Sherman, who accompanied California Chrome on the 32-mile journey late Sunday morning.
California Chrome, trained by Alan’s father, Art, was quite frisky when he got off the van at 11:45 a.m. as a light rain fell, but settled down once he went into the double-wide stall he will occupy this week in his temporary living quarters at Santa Anita. He has a similar double-wide stall at Los Alamitos.
This schedule mirrors what California Chrome has done before his races at Santa Anita and at Del Mar this year, shipping-in six days prior to the race.
California Chrome is the acknowledged favorite for the Classic, in which he will try to complete a perfect 7 for 7 season and nail down the title as Horse of the Year, which he won in 2014.
Entries for the Classic, and the other 12 Breeders’ Cup races to be run Friday and Saturday, are due Monday. The Classic field is expected to be Arrogate, California Chrome, Effinex, Found, Frosted, Hoppertunity, Keen Ice, Melatonin, Shaman Ghost, War Story, and Win the Space.
