Calhoun pointing Tengo Mis Papeles, Restless Eyes for Prairie stakes

Tengo Mis Papeles established himself as the dominant 2-year-old during the Lone Star Park meet and now he’s taking his show to Prairie Meadows. Trainer Bret Calhoun said Monday that the unbeaten colt is being pointed for the $100,000 Prairie Gold Juvenile on Aug. 14.
Tengo Mis Papeles won his career debut in the $75,000 Staunch Avenger division of the Texas Stallion Stakes on June 13 at Lone Star. In his only other start, the Texas-bred captured a division of the track’s $100,000 Texas Thoroughbred Futurity on July 10.
“He just moved to Remington Park,” Calhoun said. “He came out of the race well. Our decision was whether to just freshen him and wait for Houston or to go on and run in some of these other races around the country. He came out of it so well we decided we would try him against some others, open horses, and our plan is to run him at Prairie Meadows.”
The Prairie Gold Juvenile will be run over six furlongs. Tengo Mis Papeles has sprinted in both of his starts. He rolled by 9 3/4 lengths in the Staunch Avenger, then popped a career-high Beyer Speed Figure of 71 last out in the Texas Thoroughbred Futurity.
Tengo Mis Papeles races for Wayne Sanders and Larry Hirsch. He has been ridden in both of his starts by Reylu Gutierrez.
Calhoun has another 2-year-old on deck for an upcoming stakes at Prairie Meadows. He said Restless Eyes, who was a debut winner in May at Lone Star Park, is being pointed for the $100,000 Prairie Gold Lassie on the same Aug. 14 card as the Prairie Gold Juvenile.
“She ran a very good second at Ellis the other day in her second out,” said Calhoun.
Restless Eyes is a daughter of Midshipman who races for her breeder, Tom Durant. She is from the female family of Touch Tone, a past winner of the Iowa Derby.
