Calhoun has prospects for Lecomte, Silverbulletday

A good horse can come from anywhere, and if trainer Bret Calhoun didn’t know that before, he has found that out this year.
“I keep telling people my hopes for the future are a New York-bred, a Louisiana-bred, and a Texas-bred by a teaser stallion,” Calhoun said.
The New York-bred is a colt, Fish Trappe Road, who will point to the Lecomte Stakes on Jan. 16. The Louisiana-bred is Jet Black Magic, the winner of the Delta Princess in her most recent start and an intended starter, also on Jan. 16, in the Silverbulletday Stakes. The Texas-bred 2-year-old filly More Than Most won the La Senorita, a turf-route stakes at Retama, in her last out and also is pointed to the Silverbulletday. More Than Most is by Indygo Mountain, just the fourth foal by the Texas stallion to make it to the races.
More Than Most worked six furlongs Friday in 1:15. Fish Trappe Road, second most recently in a tough edition of the $250,000 Sleepy Hollow Stakes for New York-breds, has logged three works at Fair Grounds, while Jet Black Magic had a quick five-furlong work in 1:00.40 on Wednesday. Jet Black Magic won the Delta Princess by 4 1/4 lengths, and Calhoun thinks she can be a better 3-year-old.
“She’s kind of a lanky filly, the type of horse you’d think could improve with age,” he said.
◗ The 2-year-old Mo Tom had his first work Friday since finishing a good third in the Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes, going an easy half-mile in 49.80 shortly after the renovation break.
