Caledonian looks sharp for Bay Shore

OZONE PARK, N.Y. – Trainer John Terranova had a smile on his face after watching Aqueduct’s third race on Wednesday, when the Kiaran McLaughlin-trained Always a Suspect ran away from the field to win an allowance race by about seven lengths.
The Terranova-trained Caledonian had tussled twice with Always a Suspect, losing to him by a neck last November and beating him by a neck in the Lost in the Fog Stakes. Caledonian will be stepping up in class Saturday when takes on five rivals in the Grade 3, $250,000 Bay Shore Stakes for 3-year-olds.
Caledonian, who followed his Lost in the Fog score with a victory in the Jimmy Winkfield Stakes on Feb. 20, will be attempting seven furlongs for the first time.
Terranova’s biggest worry was whether there would be anyone to run with likely favorite Theory, who makes his 3-year-old debut in this spot. Theory, who won the Grade 3 Futurity last October at Belmont, drew post 5.
The others entered were Miggsy, Even Thunder, Long Haul Bay, and You’re to Blame.
The Bay Shore will go as race 4 on the card.
