Caledonian looks set for Jimmy Winkfield

OZONE PARK, N.Y. – King Kranz won the Lost in the Fog Stakes for trainer John Terranova in 2016, and Caledonian won the Lost in the Fog for him this year. King Kranz makes his next start in an allowance race Friday at Aqueduct. Caledonian is expected to make his next start in Monday’s $100,000 Jimmy Winkfield Stakes here.
Caledonian was entered in the Gander Stakes around two turns on Jan. 28, but he was scratched due to a hind-end muscle pull. But Caledonian returned to the work tab Sunday, breezing a half-mile in 49.95 seconds, and galloped well Wednesday.
“He breezed with King Kranz; they both worked great,” Terranova said. “He’s come back good. Looking forward to Monday.”
Others pointing to the Winkfield include Even Thunder, Moves Like Ali, Sal the Turtle, She Loves Shoe, and possibly Bavaro.
◗ Heavenly Score, a maiden winner sprinting for Terranova on Jan. 15, will get the chance to stretch out around two turns in the $150,000 Busher Stakes on Feb. 25.
On Wednesday, Heavenly Score worked five furlongs in 1:02.34. She picked up some company in the move, as two horses trained by Tom Morley were breezing several yards in front. Heavenly Score tipped three wide in the stretch and passed those fillies with ease coming to the wire.
“She’s training really good,” Terranova said. “I don’t know what her best game is going to be ultimately. She’s just fast.”
