Caledonia Road confirmed for Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies

ELMONT, N.Y. – Caledonia Road, runner-up to Separationofpowers in the Grade 1 Frizette, will run in the $2 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies on Nov. 4 at Del Mar, trainer Ralph Nicks confirmed Sunday.
Nicks said Mike Smith, the winningest rider in Breeders’ Cup history, has the mount.
Caledonia Road, a daughter of Quality Road, made her first two starts for Luke Paiement’s Zoom and Fish Stable and Charlie Spiring. They have sold a third of Caledonia Road to the Newtown Anner Stud of Maurice and Samantha Regan.
On Sunday at Belmont, Caledonia Road worked half-mile in 49.07 seconds under exercise rider Heather Smullen. She started a length behind workmate Table for Six and finished basically on even terms while getting her last quarter in 24.66.
“It’s not a fitness thing with her,” Nicks said. “She’s plenty fit. Just wanted to open her lungs up today and keep her happy.”
Also working Sunday for the Juvenile Fillies were Lady Ivanka, the Grade 1 Spinaway winner, and Separationofpowers.
At Aqueduct, Lady Ivanka worked five furlongs in 1:01.06 with a final quarter in 23.93 under Rudy Rodriguez.
At Belmont, Separationofpowers worked a half-mile in 48.53, getting her first quarter in 24.36 and second quarter in 24.17, and galloping out five furlongs in 1:01.40. She worked in company with the maiden Brattata and was not asked by her rider.
