Calder: Patriotic Flame best

MIAMI - Patriotic Flame outgamed his uncoupled stablemate Whos Crying Now by a half-length, giving trainer Manny Tortora a one-two finish in Saturday's $50,450 Royal Glint Stakes at Calder.
Patriotic Flame rallied four wide around the second turn, gained a slight advantage inside the eighth pole, and then withstood his stablemate under jockey Rosemary Homeister Jr.
Whos Crying Now, a tepid 3-1 favorite, challenged for command approaching the quarter pole, was outmoved by the winner into the stretch, and then came again in the final furlong to just miss.
News Report, who brought a four-race winning streak into the one-mile Royal Glint, joined the leaders along the rail near midstretch, but hung late to finish third, another 1 1/4 lengths behind Whos Crying Now.
Kinsman Valor, Just Say The Word, Springfield Boy, Military Man, Formal Charade, and Danielles Magic completed the order of finish.
Patriotic Flame paid $8.40. A son of Concerto, he covered the distance in 1:41.05 over a fast track.
