Calder: Aclassysassylassy scores

Mike Welsch|Sep 06, 2004
Aclassysassylassy
Jim Lisa Aclassysassylassy wins the $125,000 Susan's Girl Division of the Florida Stallion Stakes during the Juvenile Showcase at Calder on Monday.

MIAMI - Aclassysassylassy put herself in position to become only the second filly to sweep all three legs of the Florida Stallion Stakes when she rallied to a 2 1/2-length victory over Cut the Mustard in Monday's $125,000 at Calder. She will attempt to complete the sweep in the $400,000 My Dear Girl Stakes on Oct. 23.

The seven-furlong Susan's Girl shared top billing on Monday's Juvenile Showcase along with the $125,000 Affirmed Stakes, which prove to be a tour de force for Cin Cin, who rallied to a five-length win over Favre. B.B. Best, the 3-5 favorite, finished third. The Juvenile Showcase, a 13-race program dedicated entirely to 2-year-olds, had been postponed from Saturday because of Hurricane Frances.

Aclassysassylassy easily captured the Desert Vixen Stakes three weeks earlier. She rallied three wide under jockey Manny Aguilar leaving the turn after stalking the pace of Yes It's Gold and Cut the Mustard, forged to command near midstretch, and gradually increased her advantage to the wire.

Aclassysassylassy, trained by David Vivian, covered the distance in 1:27.74 and paid $2.80.

Cin Cin used tactics similar to Aclassysassylassy to win the seven-furlong Affirmed, rating off a contested pace before swinging four wide turning for home, then drawing away from a weary Favre. B.B. Best, coming off an easy victory in the Dr. Fager division of the Stallion series, attempted to rally with the winner but came up empty down the stretch.

Cin Cin ($8.20) was perfectly ridden by Abdiel Toribio and completed seven furlongs in 1:26.00.

Other stakes winners on the Juvenile Showcase program were Dansetta Light ($36.80) in the $50,000 Lindsay Frolic Stakes; Cherokee Chase ($9) in the Seacliff Stakes; Ragtime Hope ($22.60) in the $50,000 Catcharisingstar Stakes; and Monti's Lad ($26.40) in the Fasig Tipton Dash. Both the Catcharisingstar and Fasig Tipton Dash were taken off the turf and run on the main track.
