Cactus Kris, Disco Barbie rematched in Satin and Lace

Cactus Kris and Disco Barbie finished heads apart in last year’s Satin and Lace Stakes, and they will hook up again in Sunday’s renewal of the $100,000 sprint for fillies and mares at Presque Isle Downs.
The 5-year-old Cactus Kris, based at Turfway Park with trainer Ryan Walsh, figures to go favored in the 5 1/2-furlong Satin and Lace after romping by five lengths with a career-high 96 Beyer Speed Figure in her most recent start, last month’s Grade 3 Hendrie at Woodbine.
But Disco Barbie was equally impressive in the local prep for the Satin and Lace, scoring by 5 1/4 lengths with a 90 Beyer. She also gets in with eight pounds less to carry than 123-pound highweight Cactus Kris.
The field of nine also includes the speedy Woodbine-based mare Tahnee, who makes her first start since October, and Late Spring, who tries Tapeta for the first time after a win and a second in turf sprints at Keeneland and Churchill Downs.

KEY CONTENDERS
Cactus Kris, by Cactus Ridge

◗ She was entered in the local prep May 30 but was scratched.
◗ She prevailed in this stakes last year as the 7-5 choice and has been first or second in 8 of 12 starts at Presque Isle.
Disco Barbie, by Pure Prize
Last 3 Beyers: 90-83-81
◗ She encountered some traffic trouble in deep stretch of last year’s Satin and Lace.
◗ She has been first or second in all seven of her starts at Presque Isle, including a half-length defeat two years ago in the premier event of the meet, the Grade 2 Presque Isle Masters.
◗ Trainer Dale Capuano has been white-hot with the horses he has brought up from Maryland, going 8 for 18 (44 percent).
Tahnee, by Where’s the Ring
Last 3 Beyers: 80-89-88
◗ Her absence since October shouldn’t be a concern. Last year, she returned from 658 days on the sidelines to win a first-level allowance at Woodbine by nearly four lengths. She shows a string of sharp workouts over the new Tapeta surface at Woodbine, an indication that she should like the surface at Presque Isle.
Late Spring, by Speightstown
Last 3 Beyers: 87-87-85
◗ She fits on turf form, having won a 5 1/2-furlong second-level allowance and finished second in the Unbridled Sidney on grass in her two most recent starts. But trainer Victoria Oliver is 0 for her last 20 with horses switching from turf to synthetic surfaces.
