Cactus Kris captures Satin and Lace
RACE REPLAY IS NOT AVAILABLE
Cactus Kris held off a late bid by Disco Barbie to earn her third straight victory in Sunday night’s $100,000 Satin and Lace Stakes for fillies and mares at Presque Isle Downs.
Under regular rider Huber Villa-Gomez, the 4-year-old Cactus Kris ($4.80) was third, but only a half-length behind tiring pacesetter Silver Tresor and a head in back of Disco Barbie at the eighth pole. Cactus Kris got to the front and had to withstand a late surge along the rail by Disco Barbie to prevail by a head. The winning time of 1:02.70 was just .46 of a second off the track record for 5 1/2 furlongs.
Trained by Ryan Walsh for owner Anne Walsh, Cactus Kris now has 4 wins and 3 seconds in 10 starts locally. Overall, she has won 5 of 13 starts and $268,933.
Disco Barbie, narrowly beaten in last year’s Presque Isle Masters, was clearly second best by 3 1/2 lengths. Monster Sleeping finished third at 32-1 by a neck over Storm On Bye.
