SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – C. Steven Duncker, a former partner in Goldman Sachs & Company and the former chairman of the New York Racing Association, has been elected to the board of stewards of The Jockey Club, the organization announced on Tuesday. Duncker will fill the spot formerly held by the late Ogden Mills “Dinny” Phipps, who died in the spring of 2016. Phipps was the longtime chairman of The Jockey Club. Duncker, who breeds and races Thoroughbreds under the Jump Sucker stable name, will join Barbara Banke, Everett R. Dobson, William Farish Jr., Ian Highet, William M. Lear Jr., Michael O’Farrell Jr., and John W. Phillips on the board. The Jockey Club’s board recently authorized the organization to pursue a number of initiatives, including exploring the possibility of buying or leasing distressed racing properties and providing grant funding to tracks for renovations or upgrades. Those initiatives were announced Sunday at the organization’s Round Table Conference in Saratoga Springs. Duncker continues to serve on the board of NYRA, and he is also a board member of Jockey Club Information Systems, a wholly owned subsidiary of The Jockey Club, and Equibase Management Systems, which is co-owned by The Jockey Club.
