Byron King: Horses to watch at Keeneland for the week of April 12
Money Flows
Trainer: Al Stall
Last race: April 7, 3rd
Finish: 2nd by a neck
Beyer: 93
Breaking from the fence in a mile optional claimer on the main track, he was slow to start and after being hustled into the race, grew keen behind a surprisingly slow pace. He was hemmed in traffic for much of the race, and closed resolutely once clear but could not catch the winner in a race that ended at the sixteenth pole.
Hunka Burning Love
Trainer: Mike Maker
Last race: April 8, 1st
Finish: 2nd by 3 1/2
Beyer: 76
Performed better than his modest Beyer would suggest in finishing second in a quality allowance for 3-year-olds, a race in which graded winner Bitumen was third. He chased the winner from the start through quality splits and tired a bit late going the “Beard Course” distance of 7 furlongs and 184 feet. Six furlongs is his best trip.
Our Girl Abby
Trainer: Mike Maker
Last race: April 9, 2nd
Finish: 3rd by 5 3/4
Beyer: NA
Although Beyers are not calculated for 4 ½-furlong races at Keeneland, this was a fast race and this filly did well to finish third after seemingly having no chance to hit the board a quarter mile into the race. She rallied from 11 lengths back and galloped out powerfully, suggesting a bright future within the 2-year-old filly ranks.
