BV Georgy Girl debuts with high hopes

The 2-year-old filly BV Georgy Girl should fit quite well with trainer Eddie Willis at Remington Park this spring.

BV Georgy Girl will debut in a 300-yard maiden race for Quarter Horses at Remington Park in Thursday’s 10th and final race. Owned by breeders Bella Vista Farm, BV Georgy Girl is part of a family with an excellent record at Remington Park’s prestigious winter-spring meeting.

In 2015, BV Georgy Girl’s half-brother BV Midnight Express won the $1.17 million Heritage Place Futurity at Remington Park. BV Midnight Express won 5 of 14 starts and earned $769,319.

BV Georgy Girl is by Tempting Dash out of Ms Tres Seis, a maiden race winner in her third and final start in 2006.

There are hints that BV Georgy Girl has ability. She won a 250-yard training race against seven rivals March 4, finishing in 13.58 seconds.

Thursday’s 10th race drew a field of 10, with eight first-time starters. Flybye and Peves Moon River both finished eighth in divisions of the Remington Park Oklahoma-bred Futurity trials on April 3.

The first-time starters EC Ante Up and Providenz have shown promise in workouts.

EC Ante Up, a filly by Apollitical Jess, had a quick 250-yard gate workout in 13.59 on March 25 for trainer Edward Ross. EC Ante Up is out of Fast Prize Zoom, winner of the West Texas Futurity at Sunland Park in 2008. Fast Prize Zoom won the 300-yard West Texas Futurity in world-record time of 14.67, aided by a 24 mph tailwind. The record was later broken.

Providenz, a gelding by Dominyum, has had four workouts at 220 and 250 yards since late February for trainer Charlton Hunt. Providenz is out of First to Celebrate, a First Down Dash mare who did not race. She is the dam of Wahoo, the champion distance horse of 2014 and the stakes-placed Aunti Up.

Thursday’s program is the start of a four-day racing week at Remington Park highlighted by eight stakes on Saturday, including the $891,900 Remington Park Oklahoma-bred Futurity and the $268,500 Remington Park Oklahoma-bred Derby.

The track continues to race without spectators and with the casino on the property temporarily closed. Last weekend, the track announced a 20 percent reduction in Quarter Horse purses because of the decline in revenue. The meeting runs through May 30.
