OZONE PARK, N.Y. – Five Mid-Atlantic shippers will take on four locally based runners in a seemingly wide-open running of Sunday’s $100,000 Busanda Stakes for 3-year-old fillies at Aqueduct. Eleven were entered in the Busanda, but both Elegant Zip and No Mo Lady were scratched. Elegant Zip was scratched Sunday morning due to heat in a foot, according to trainer David Donk. Trainer Michael Trombetta scratched No Mo Lady to point for a race in Maryland. None of the entrants has been successful at 1 1/8 miles, and only two have even attempted to run that far. Afleet Destiny and Filly Joel finished far behind Positive Spirit when second and third in the Grade 2 Demoiselle on Dec. 1. Getting Warmer, based at Parx with trainer Ed Coletti Jr., won her first two starts before finishing fifth in the Gin Talking Stakes at Laurel. Getting Warmer broke slowly and appeared to resent dirt hitting her in the face early on in the Gin Talking, according to Coletti. Coletti said he is looking forward to getting the daughter of Algorithms stretched out around two turns. “She looks like she’s bred for the distance. She trains like she can go all day,” Coletti said. Filly Joel, a daughter of Dialed In, did win a 1 1/16-mile maiden race at Belmont in October before perhaps making the lead sooner than trainer Rudy Rodriguez would have preferred in the Demoiselle. Miss Marilyn and Always Shopping finished 1-2 in a one-mile maiden race here on Dec. 14. Always Shopping, winless in three starts, breaks from the rail, while Miss Marilyn will break from the outside in the now-nine-horse field. Afleet Destiny has run her two best races since being stretched out in distance. She did finish third behind Getting Warmer going six furlongs at Parx in October. The Busanda offers 17 qualifying points to its top four finishers (10-4-2-1) to the Kentucky Oaks. Filly Joel, by Dialed In Last 3 Beyers: 66-74-53 • Did win going a distance of ground at Belmont in October. • Trainer Rodriguez felt his filly made the lead too early in the Demoiselle.
