Burke's Sister one to beat at Hoosier Park

Burke's Sister will try to continue her winning ways in the $70,000 Richmond at Hoosier Park. Ten Indiana-bred and -sired fillies and mares will go postward.

Burke's Sister has won four races this season for trainer George McCarty. Only two other entrants, Good Morning Nell and Life's a Witch, have won as many as two races this year. A 7-year-old mare, Burke's Sister has won four starter-allowance contests in 2009, three at Turfway Park and one locally. Burke's Sister also finished second in the $70,000 Shelby County on May 29 at Indiana Downs. In her last out on Aug. 29, Burke's Sister ran an even seventh to be beaten four lengths in the six-furlong Merrillville. The stretchout to 1 1/16 miles in this race as well as a switch to the statebred and sired ranks should move her up quite a bit. Regular Rider Aldo Canchano will ride

Brean Can also raced in the Merrillville. The 5-year-old mare was gaining late in that event, but finished fourth, beaten a length and a quarter. Trained by Mike Nance, Brean Can was second in the 2008 running of this race but has yet to win at this distance in four lifetime attempts. Rodney Prescott retains the mount.
