Bullish Miss gets first stakes win

Chuck Dybdal|Oct 20, 2002

SAN MATEO, Calif. - Bullish Miss ($5.20), entered in the $60,850 Charles H. Russell Handicap at Bay Meadows after it was postponed one week due to a lack of entries, scored her first stakes victory, outlasting Onslaught by a neck in the six-furlong race.

The 4-year-old filly led Onslaught by a head after a 22.41 opening quarter then picked up the pace with a 22.33 second quarter to take a one-length lead. She won the race in 1:09.10.

"I did not expect her to be on the lead," winning trainer Jerry Hollendorfer said. "She can run from off the pace, but (jockey) Jason (Lumpkins) sensed he had a lot of horse and did a good job of thinking out there."

Bullish Miss has won six of 16 starts (4-of-7 at Bay Meadows) and earned $33,400 to increase her lifetime earnings to $172,180.
