Bullet could be number one in featured sprint

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – The aptly named Bullet returns from a one-year layoff in Saturday’s featured conditioned allowance with a $50,000 claiming option at Woodbine. The 3-year-old should be ready to roll in the six-furlong Tapeta sprint for fillies and mares.
Trained by Mark Casse for D. J. Stable, Bullet made quite a splash when debuting in the spring of 2024 in the Royal Palm Stakes at Gulfstream. After a tardy start, she made an eye-catching wide rally to win the five-furlong turf dash going away.
Bullet resurfaced here two months later in the 5 1/2-furlong My Dear Stakes on the Tapeta. Sent off at a skimpy 1-2 in the betting, she came from fourth to prevail by 4 1/4 lengths while earning her second straight 71 Beyer Speed Figure. Bullet made two more starts at 2, both here on the grass. She was a sagging sixth in the Catch a Glimpse Stakes in August and a close third against the boys in the Algonquin Stakes in October.
Bullet worked back-to-back bullets in September, including an impressive five furlongs from the gate in 59 seconds on Sept. 13. Sahin Civaci will ride the daughter of War Front from the outside post 7.
Casse also entered Golden Canary, who has spent all year trying to clear the second allowance condition on the grass. Golden Canary finished third with a pair of 84 Beyers in back-to-back six-furlong events at Aqueduct in the spring. The stretch-runner was promoted from fourth to third after mounting a mild bid on her left lead when traveling six furlongs on the main turf here July 19. A slow pace hindered her chances here most recently when she finished a belated fourth going five furlongs on the inner course.
Fraser Aebly retains the mount on Golden Canary for owners Gary Barber and Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners.
Miss Bodacious figures to be a speed threat in her fourth local outing since shipping in from Gulfstream. In her debut for trainer Mike Doyle on Aug. 17, Miss Bodacious led all the way in a first-level allowance over a yielding main turf. Switching to the Tapeta most recently in a 6 1/2-furlong sprint at this level, the import from England led until mid-stretch before holding on for second.
Luz de La Luna is coming off a $50,000 reclaim by trainer David Borsk for owners Lisa McCallum-Smith and Patrick Steane. The durable 6-year-old faded late after leading the way in two of her last three starts. Her best efforts were from off the pace, and those two subpar races shouldn’t be held against her. She’s being reunited with Jose Campos, who was aboard for two of her rallying victories.
The Grade 2-placed mare Dolce Sopresa is returning from another layoff and has been working on a regular schedule. Apprentice Pietro Moran rides her for trainer Josie Carroll.
Chromeplated Heart and May May Strong round out the field on a rare Saturday without a stakes race.
