Bull Dog Stakes part of mandatory-payout pick six on closing day at Fresno

There will be no six-figure carryover to chase when the 20-cent Gold Rush pick six has a mandatory payout on Sunday’s final day of the Big Fresno Fair in California. A bettor with a single winning ticket worth $255,888 on Oct. 7 smashed any hope of a massive carryover into Sunday.
Still, the bet must be distributed on a nine-race program that includes the $75,000 Bulldog Stakes at 1 1/8 miles, the leading race on the Northern California fair circuit for 3-year-olds and up. The Bulldog Stakes, which drew a solid field of 10, is the final race on a program that begins at 1:15 p.m. Pacific.
The pick six carryover into Friday, the first day of racing of the week at Fresno, was $5,468.

The pick six covers the fourth through ninth races. Every pick six race has a field of eight or more before scratches, much higher than the average for the fair circuit.
There are a few races where bettors can isolate likely winners, and other races that will require broader coverage.
Rosebud Ryde will be a short price in the fourth race, a $5,000 claimer for maiden fillies and mares at a mile. Rosebud Ryde has been second or third six times in her seven starts, including a neck loss at 9-10 on Oct. 10 at Fresno. The field includes Dark Intent, who has made nine starts and runs for her lowest claiming price since May.
Leading trainer Jonathan Wong has the favorite in the fifth race, a $3,200 claimer at 5 1/2 furlongs, with Wicked Blue, who was disqualified from first to second on Oct. 7 for causing interference in a sprint at Fresno. His main rival in the field of 10 appears to be Live a Good Life, who was a wide third on Oct. 8 at Fresno and looks to end a 10-race losing streak.
Irish Wahine, A Dime for Me, and Swanee are leading runners in race 6, a starter allowance at 5 1/2 furlongs. Irish Wahine won a starter allowance by 2 1/2 lengths on Sept. 23 at Los Alamitos, while A Dime for Me had a three-race winning streak end with a third in an allowance race Oct. 2 at Golden Gate Fields.
There are eight runners in the seventh race. Pepperman, who drew the outside, takes a drop in class from a starter allowance at Golden Gate to a $16,000 claimer for nonwinners of two. Stan the Hot Man, trained by Wong, drops after finishing fifth in an allowance on turf at Golden Gate.
The eighth race is very competitive, with Minoso, Miso Fast, and Potente Alba all with good chances in the restricted $4,000 claimer at 5 1/2 furlongs. Tiz Indy would be a contender if he gets in from the also-eligible list,
The Bulldog Stakes drew 10, including I’mgonnabesomebody, who won the Sam Spear Memorial Stakes on turf at Golden Gate Fields in September. I’mgonnabesomebody tends to run near the front. Bold Endeavor, third in an allowance race at Del Mar last month, and A Man’s Man, who has won his last five starts, also are threats.
