Buggin Out wins Magic City Classic for fifth straight year
RACE REPLAY IS NOT AVAILABLE
There are few sure things in horse racing, aside from Buggin Out winning the Magic City Classic for Alabama-breds each year at Fair Grounds. On Friday, he did just that, victorious in the $50,000 stake for the fifth year in a row, though he needed most every yard of the mile race to prevail.
In traffic along the inside when rallying in early stretch, he was swung to the outside by Corey Lanerie over the final furlong and closed in time to catch Menewa by a neck. A 7-year-old gelded son of Indy – the sire of five of the nine entrants in the Magic City Classic – Buggin Out ($3.60) raced a mile on a fast track in 1:42.82. Ronnie Ward trains him for owner Dennis Murphy.
Menewa, nailed right near the wire by Buggin Out, finished 1 3/4 lengths in front of third-place Two Mikes N Doc G, an 86-1 longshot who caught Babalight late for the show.
