Buffalo Raceway: Svanstedt triples in New York Sire Stakes, highlighted by Plunge Blue Chip's track record

Plunge Blue Chip finished off a three-win Friday for trainer-driver Ake Svanstedt in the New York Sire Stakes for rookie trotting fillies at Buffalo Raceway, and she did so in track record time, halting the clock in 2:00 flat.

Racing in the fifth and final $21,800 split, Plunge Blue Chip led through panels of 29 3/5, 59 3/5, and 1:30 2/5, then hustled home in 29 3/5 to win by six lengths over Ithinkthatsmine (Chris Lems). White Cheetah (Matt Kakaley) finished third. The 2:00 performance lowered the previous record of 2:00 2/5 set by Munis Blue Chip in 2009.

Svanstedt said after the race, "She trained really nice all week and went the mile with ease. She just seems to have that little bit extra compared to my other two winners. I think this is just the beginning for her...there's plenty more to come."

A daughter of Muscle Mass, Plunge Blue Chip, who was making her first career start after two baby races at the Meadowlands, is owned by Svanstedt and breeder Blue Chip Bloodstock Inc. Plunge Blue Chip was a $42,000 Harrisburg buy and is the second foal out of the Donato Hanover mare Dunk The Donato. Dunk The Donato's dam Irene's Lucky Lady (Winky's Pine) is a half-sister to $3.5 million earner Mr. Muscleman. Plunge Blue Chip was the 4-5 choice and paid $3.70 to win.

Natalie Hanover was Svanstedt's first winner, taking the third $21,800 flight in 2:04. She put up fractions of 31 3/5, 1:02 3/5, and 1:34 1/5 before coming home in 29 4/5 to hold off a rallying Big Checkmate (Don Dupont) by a nose in a 2:04 mile. Kowtow Hanover (Kakaley) came in third.

The victorious Chapter Seven filly is owned by Svanstedt-Nasstrom Stable, Van Camp Trotting Corp., Anders Olsson, and Lars Berg. Natalie Hanover, a Hanover Shoe Farms Inc.-bred who was taken out of the Goshen Yearling Sale for $22,000, came into today after two qualifiers at the Meadowlands and returned $7.80 to win as the 5-2 second choice. Natalie Hanover is out of the Glidemaster mare Nanticoke Hanover, a half-sister to millionaire Neighsay Hanover.

Lucky Ava was Svanstedt's other winner as she grabbed the victory in the fourth $22,200 split in 2:01 3/5. Starting from the rail, she went to the front, carved out stations of 30 3/5, 1:02, and 1:33 1/5, then sealed the deal with a 28 2/5 final kicker. She defeated Dew To Win (Trond Smedshammer) by two lengths, with Good Luck Ginny (John Cummings Jr.) back in third.

Svanstedt, Little E LLC., and Van Camp Trotting Corp. own Lucky Ava, a daughter of Lucky Chucky. Also bred by Little E LLC., Lucky Ava won at first asking after finishing third in a pair of baby races at the Meadowlands. Lucky Ava's dam is the Cantab Hall mare Ava Marion, a half-sister to trio of six-figure earners, including stakes winner Great Success ($400,205). Lucky Ava was sent off as the 8-5 favorite and paid $5.30 to win.

The sire stakes action kicked off with a 31-1 upset as Oooteeny (Ray Schnittker) toured the mile in 2:03 4/5 after fronting the group of eight through a 31 4/5 opening quarter, a 1:02 3/5 half, and a 1:34 2/5 three-quarters. Donttellvoula (Kakaley) was the runner-up, 3 1/4 lengths behind the winner, and Ladyyouaregorgeous (Lems) completed the trifecta.

Jim Campbell trains Oooteeny, a filly by Credit Winner, for owner Runthetable Stables. Oooteeny, who was bred by Kelley Racing Stable LLC., Our Horse Cents Stables, and Stable 45, was a $20,000 purchase at the Standardbred Horse Sale. She had a second and a win in two qualifiers at Harrah's Philadelphia in preparation for today's race, and she would return $64.00 to win. Oooteeny's dam is the Donato Hanover mare Lindy's Head Nurse and this is her first foal.

Lima Novelty (Jody Jamieson) was the other New York Sire Stakes winner during the afternoon, bagging the $22,200 second section in 2:01 3/5. She took over the top spot just beyond the 31 second opening quarter, then rang up middle-half sections of 1:01 1/5 and 1:32. Fury Road (Svanstedt) came to the outside from the pocket to challenge in the lane, but Lima Novelty held sway to prevail by half a length. Abbie Hall (Smedshammer) took third.

A daughter of Chapter Seven, Lima Novelty is owned by trainer Carl Jamieson and Dr. Robert Boyce. First and second in two baby races at Mohawk, Lima Novelty was the 6-1 third choice and paid $15.00 to win. Lima Novelty, who was bred by Steiner Stock Farm and Acadia Farms Inc. and sold for $19,000 at the Lexington Selected Yearling Sale, is out of the S J's Photo mare No Pictures Please, a full sister to triple millionaire Vivid Photo.
