Metro Matty and EL Mission Goddess each stopped the timer in 2:01 4/5 in winning the pair of $51,500 New York Sire Stakes divisions for 2-year-old trotting fillies on Wednesday afternoon at Buffalo Raceway. Defiant Lady (Kevin Cummings) darted to the top from post four in the opening split, but Metro Matty (Drew Monti) came to the outside before the 30 3/5 opening quarter and took over the top spot past that station. It was all Metro Matty from there, as she clicked off a half of 1:02 1/5 and a three-quarters of 1:33 on her way to winning by 2 3/4 lengths over Defiant Lady. Seven Bridges Road (Mark Whitcroft) was third. John Butenschoen trains Metro Matty, a Winbak Farm-bred daughter of Met's Hall, for owners Bay Pond Racing Stable. A $17,000 purchase at last year's Lexington Selected Yearling Sale, she has two wins from three attempts, and she has now banked $32,250. She was the 2-5 favorite and paid $2.80 to win. The other section saw EL Mission Goddess (Jim Marohn Jr.) blast out from the pole position to the engine, but she would be overtaken after the 30 second opening quarter by Crazy Lovin (John Stark Jr.). Crazy Lovin maintained control through middle-half panels of 1:00 2/5 and 1:32, but Marohn Jr. angled his filly to the outside on the final bend and out-footed Crazy Lovin through the stretch to tally by 2 1/4 lengths. Nice Top Line (Kyle Cummings) got third. ► Sign up for our FREE DRF Harness Digest Newsletter A daughter of E L Titan bred by Steve Jones, EL Mission Goddess is co-owned by trainer Tom Corelli in partnership with Peter Branciforte, Clare Semer, and Edward Reich.
