Buffalo: NY Sire Stakes season begins for rookie pacing fillies

webmaster|Jun 21, 2023
So Well Dressed 6-21-23
Bill Burke So Well Dressed started her racing career with a New York Sire Stakes victory

So Well Dressed ($8.00) was the fastest in the three ($35,000 approximate) divisions of the New York Sire Stakes for the 2-year-old filly pacers on Wednesday afternoon (June 21) at Buffalo Raceway as she claimed the victory over Blue Point in 1:57 2/5 over the fast track.

Jim Morrill Jr., who drove So Well Dressed to the win, made it two victories in the NYSS by steering Belle Brielle to a $17.60 surprise in 1:59 2/5.

Camerican kicked things off in the first bracket as Ronnie Wrenn Jr. guided her to a solid 1 1/2 length decision in 1:58 2/5.

For all 19 entrants in the Sire Stakes, it was their first career start.

So Well Dressed followed the pace-setting Blue Point (Jason Bartlett) through fractions of 30, 59 1/5 and 1:28 3/5. But at the top of the stretch, So Well Dressed was the pocket rocket and rolled on by to collect the neck victory over Blue Point. Golden Krisp (Joseph Chindano Jr.) took the show position.

Co-owned by trainer Janice Connor and Robert Lovett, So Well Dressed (So Surreal-Gotmyredressontnit) earned $17,950 in the start of her career.

In the most exciting of the three dashes, Belle Brielle had to hold on late to turn back a pesky Hunting Hula (Patrick Lachance) by a mere nose.

Hunting Hula stomped the first quarter mile in 30 3/5, but Belle Brielle took over the top just past the opening marker and notched times of 1:00 2/5 and 1:30 3/5 from there. Things seemed under control for Belle Brielle, but Hunting Hula appeared to get on even-terms late with Belle Brielle. However, the photo showed she came up just a nose short. Moderna Hanover (Bartlett) was third.

Trained by Bruce Clarke and co-owned by Megan Rose Beauchamp and Patricia Waldeck, Belle Brielle (American Ideal-Gianna's Delight) took home a first-place check of $17,600.

Camerican ($3.30) sat a patient fifth but then got into high gear down the backstretch to pull away from the field. She strolled to her triumph over I'm A Believer (Jordan Stratton) while Lady Saturn (Brett Beckwith) was third.

The tandem of Fansbaby and Viceversa Bluechip showed the way through the opening-half in 1:01, but the pair called it a day approaching the three-quarter pole. There, Camerican was motoring past the duo and used a 28 second last panel to solidify the victory.

Trained by Ron Burke and owned by the Burke Racing Stable LLC., Weaver Bruscemi, M1 Stable and Jack Piatt III, Camerican (American Ideal-Camille) collected a $17,600 check for breaking her maiden in her first attempt.

There were a pair of $20,000 events in the Excelsior Series. Rolling With Truth ($11.60) took the first division with a half-length nod over Sweeney Downs in 2:01, while Gandy Dancer ($6.80) scored a head decision over Purrfect Patricia in 2:02 2/5.

Fox Valley Charliz ($11.20) tracked down the front-stepping Miss Rockadali to capture the $15,500 Open Pace for the fillies and mares. She covered the mile in 1:56 in registering the 1 1/2 length win.

Morrill Jr. and Chindano Jr. completed the afternoon with three victories while Ray Fisher Jr. doubled. Ryan Swift had a pair of training victories.

Racing will resume on Friday afternoon with a 12-race card set to go to the post at 2:30 p.m.
