Alan Buchdahl, who has served as back-up announcer at Santa Anita for decades, will call the races at Santa Anita for three days from June 7-9 while regular announcer Frank Mirahmadi works the Belmont Racing Festival at Saratoga. Buchdahl, 67, is a familiar voice in Southern California racing. He called the Oak Tree at Santa Anita meeting in the 1970s and early 1980s and was briefly the track announcer at Hollywood Park in the early 1980s. Buchdahl’s temporary assignment is his first since a three-day span in April 2022, according to a statement released from Santa Anita. Racing set for June 13 Santa Anita will race on Thursday, June 13 as part of a four-day closing weekend of the current spring meeting that ends on June 16. The track has not raced on Thursdays for the most part since the winter-spring meeting began on Dec. 26. Following the June 16 program, the Southern California Thoroughbred circuit shifts to Los Alamitos for the eight-day Los Angeles County Fair meeting at Los Alamitos from June 22 to July 7.
