Graded stakes-winning turf sprinter Bucchero, a solid young sire in Florida, will relocate to New York to stand the upcoming season at McMahon of Saratoga Thoroughbreds. “Traditionally, New York breeders have not had the opportunity to breed to a new stallion who was already on the upswing with proven runners on the ground, but that certainly should be changing in the future with the exceptional program New York has developed and actively improved,” said Bucchero's managing partner Harlan Malter in a release. “We have broken the mold a bit with Bucchero and we feel we are doing it again with our move to New York.” Indiana-bred Bucchero won seven stakes races in a career in which he earned $947,936, highlighted by back-to-back editions of the Grade 2 Woodford Stakes at Keeneland. He placed in another seven stakes while also contesting many of the world's major turf sprint events. He was fourth, beaten less than a length, in the 2017 Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint at Del Mar, and a creditable fifth in the Group 1 King's Stand Stakes at the renowned Royal Ascot meeting. :: Bet the races with a $200 First Deposit Match + FREE All Access PPs! He finished third on Florida's freshman sire earnings list last year, which was led by breakout success Girvin, who has since relocated to Kentucky. Bucchero sits fifth on Florida's general sire earnings list through Nov. 6, with fewer crops of racing age and fewer foals on the track than any stallion above him. His progeny are led by Book'em Danno, who won his first three career starts, including the Smoke Glacken Stakes at Monmouth and the off-the-turf Futurity Stakes at Aqueduct. He recently finished second in the Nashua Stakes at Aqueduct. Bucchero is also the sire of Hollywood Beach Stakes winner Mattingly, Blue Sparkler Stakes winner Beauty of the Sea, and six other stakes-placed winners, including Shards, beaten about two lengths when fifth in last week's Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint. Bucchero, who will stand for a fee of $7,500 at McMahon of Saratoga, will ship from Florida to New York next week. En route, he will stop in Lexington, Ky., to be showcased before nationwide breeders attending the major-market breeding stock sales, with an open house scheduled at Kesmarc on Nov. 14. “We are thrilled to bring Bucchero to McMahon and the New York program, as we feel Bucchero is built for a program like this,” John McMahon said. “He has shown he produces fast, precocious and, most importantly for New York breeders going forward, runners that can win on anything.” :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
