Brown works four Grade 1 winners Tuesday, including champion Sistercharlie

ELMONT, N.Y. - Sistercharlie, the reigning female turf champion, put in her first workout in nearly two months on Tuesday, breezing a half-mile in 48.92 seconds over Belmont Park’s main track.
Unable to get on the turf course over the weekend due to rain, trainer Chad Brown elected to put Sistercharlie on the dirt Tuesday. She worked in company with the Group 1-placed filly Homerique, the pair going an opening quarter in 23.98 seconds and the second quarter in 24.94.
Sistercharlie hadn’t breezed since March 10 at the Palm Meadows training center in South Florida. Shortly thereafter, she was diagnosed with a temperature. Brown, who had been pointing Sistercharlie to the Grade 1 Jenny Wiley at Keeneland in April, backed off Sistercharlie. Brown said Sistercharlie’s training schedule was further delayed due to inclement weather.
Brown said he is not sure where Sistercharlie would make her seasonal debut. Last year, she finished second in the Grade 2 New York Stakes to stablemate Fourstar Crook. It was Sistercharlie’s only loss in an Eclipse Award campaign that included victories in Diana, Beverly D., and Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf.
“I’ll know better in a couple of weeks,” Brown said. “I was going to try to nominate to the New York [on June 7], but I’m not sure I’ll do that. She missed too much time. She’s doing well, I was happy to see her work a nice solid half-mile on the dirt.”
Sistercharlie was one of four Grade 1 winners Brown worked on an atypically busy Tuesday morning.
Separationofpowers, the Grade 1 Test winner, blew out three furlongs in 37.20 seconds in preparation for a start in Saturday’s Grade 3, $200,000 Vagrancy Handicap.
Competitionofideas, winner of the Grade 1 American Oaks last December at Santa Anita, worked a slow half-mile in 52.01 seconds in company with the multiple stakes winner Fifty Five. Competitionofideas is pointing to Saturday’s Grade 3, $200,000 Beaugay for her seasonal debut.
Fog of War, who went 2 for 2 as a 2-year-old, including a victory in the Grade 1 Summer Stakes at Woodbine, worked a half-mile in 49.06 in company with Valid Point. Fog of War will likely make his 3-year-old debut in the $100,000 Paradise Creek on May 25.
