Brown sending A Lot to Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint

ELMONT, N.Y. – The last time the Breeders’ Cup was held at Santa Anita, trainer Chad Brown won the Turf Sprint with Bobby’s Kitten, who was turning back in distance from a mile and trying the hillside turf course for the first time.
Brown will attempt to use that formula again this year with A Lot, a horse who last raced at a mile – finishing second in the Grade 1 Fourstardave at Saratoga in August – and will be trying the 6 1/2 furlongs down the hill for the first time.
Brown said he first started thinking of the Turf Sprint for A Lot after he won the Elusive Quality Stakes going seven furlongs here in May, his first start for Brown. Since then, the horse has finished fourth to Pure Sensation in the Grade 3 Jaipur on Belmont Stakes Day and, most recently, second to Tourist in the Fourstardave on Aug. 20.
“He may run his best race for me fresh off a layoff,” Brown said. “I think his style suits the hill, and we had luck in that race before with Bobby’s Kitten, so figured why not take a shot?”
On Monday, A Lot worked an easy half-mile in 50.04 seconds over the Belmont Park training track. He went in company with Tombelaine in fractions of 24.69 seconds and 25.35.
