Brown says no BC Filly-Mare Turf for Shantisara, Higher Truth

Shantisara and Higher Truth, who ran 1-2 in Saturday’s $700,000 Jockey Club Oaks, will not be considered for the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf, trainer Chad Brown said.
“I think that would be a little much,” Brown said. “These fillies, they ran terrific [Saturday], I think they’re going to be really nice prospects at 4 and 5, and I don’t want to overdo it.”
Brown said he and the owners will decide whether to give those fillies a freshening or run again this year with options being the Grade 1 Queen Elizabeth II at Keeneland on Oct. 16 and/or the Grade 1, $300,000 American Oaks at 1 1/4 miles on Dec. 26 at Santa Anita.

Speaking of the American Oaks, Brown said, “It’s a good opportunity to run against straight 3-year-olds, but it’s a big commitment because it eats into your break. That’s the big dilemma for me very year with that race.”
Shantisara, who stalked her pacesetting stablemate Higher Truth, earned a 93 Beyer Speed Figure for her victory. She added the Jockey Club Oaks to a prior victory in the Grade 3 Pucker Up at Arlington Park in August.
Higher Truth is the only filly to have competed in all three legs of the New York Racing Association’s Turf Triple. She finished third in the Belmont Oaks and second in the Saratoga Oaks.
