SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Trainer Chad Brown debated whether to run Dynamic Pricing in Friday’s Grade 1 Just a Game Stakes at Saratoga. He had the likely favorite in the race in Excellent Truth, and there was an option of running Dynamic Pricing in the Grade 3, $150,000 Eatontown Stakes at Monmouth Park next weekend. When it comes to the Just a Game Stakes, though, Brown typically makes the right move. Brown and owner Seth Klarman chose to run Dynamic Pricing in the Just a Game, and under a terrific ride from Dylan Davis, the filly rolled down the center of Saratoga’s yielding turf course to win by three-quarters of a length over Excellent Truth. Not only was that the fourth win on the card for Brown – and the third race in which he ran first and second – it was the eighth Just a Game victory in the last nine years for the trainer. “It’s a nice run we’re on with the race. We’re making a lot of history,” said Brown, who also sent out sixth-place finisher Segesta. “As long as I’m training, I’ll point to it.” :: DRF Belmont Stakes Packages: Save up to 52% on PPs, Clocker Reports, Betting Strategies, and more. Dynamic Pricing was burned out mentally and physically by late summer, Brown said, so he decided to give her a break. It appeared to work out well when Dynamic Pricing kicked off her 4-year-old season with a half-length victory, despite an extremely wide trip, in the Grade 3 Beaugay at Aqueduct last month. Breaking from the inside post Friday under Dylan Davis, Dynamic Pricing saved ground while at the back of the pack. Davis was able to guide her to the outside around the turn and into the stretch. Having previously shown an affinity for yielding turf, Dynamic Pricing outfinished Excellent Truth, who was under Flavien Prat, to get the victory, her fourth from nine career starts and first in a Grade 1. “I’m very proud of Dylan. He did save ground for a lot of the trip,” Brown said. “When he was having to go wide in the last turn, he reserved so much energy from having a covered trip for most of the way, she had enough to outkick my other horse, Excellent Truth, who also ran well with a challenging trip.” Brown said Excellent Truth was “rank, bounced around the first turn and quite wide coming for home” under Flavien Prat. Davis was riding Dynamic Pricing for the first time, but he was confident in the filly’s chances because she won the Grade 2 Edgewood Stakes at Churchill last year over yielding ground. It was just a matter of working out a trip behind the loose-on-the-lead Kehoe Beach, who set fractions of 24.25 seconds for the quarter and 48.42 for the half before retreating. “I was able to get a seam into the second turn and then she jumped into the bridle pretty good,” Davis said. “So I was able to work my way out from there and she just kept that momentum on. And I saw that she ran really well on the soft going at Churchill. I thought she would handle it well.” Dynamic Pricing a daughter of Night of Thunder, covered the mile in 1:38.77, returned $22, earned a career-best Beyer Speed Figure of 100. Excellent Truth finished one length in front of Special Wan. Kehoe Beach was fourth, followed by Simply in Front, Segesta, Choisya, Do Gooder, and A Lilac Rolla. Brown said Dynamic Pricing would likely be pointed to the Grade 1 Diana here on July 12. Brown has won nine runnings of the Diana, including eight of the last nine. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering? Check out DRF's Handicapping 101 and Wagering 101 pages.
