Brown leans toward Test for Search Results

While he has not made a final decision as of yet, trainer Chad Brown said Sunday he is “leaning” toward running Grade 1 Acorn winner Search Results in the Grade 1 Test, a seven-furlong race at Saratoga on Aug. 7, rather than the Coaching Club American Oaks, a two-turn, 1 1/8-mile race at Saratoga on July 24.
Brown said he likes the additional time to the Test after Search Results ran a strong second to Malathaat in the Kentucky Oaks on April 30, then came back five weeks later to win the Grade 1 Acorn here June 5. Malathaat is pointing to the CCA Oaks.
“I definitely have not made up my mind, but she’s had a couple of hard races in a row and I think the extra time helps her,” Brown said.
On Saturday, Search Results returned to the worktab, breezing a half-mile in 48.66 seconds over Belmont Park’s main track.
Luzzi breaks ankle, out two months
Jockey Mike Luzzi will likely miss the Saratoga meet after suffering a broken right ankle Saturday at Belmont Park.
Luzzi was aboard Breaking Stones, who acted up prior to the start of Saturday’s eighth race. Luzzi jumped off Breaking Stones and landed awkwardly and suffered the broken ankle. Luzzi was expected to undergo surgery Tuesday in Saratoga, according to agent Mike Monroe.
Luzzi, a winner of 3,529 career races, was enjoying a solid 2021 campaign with 10 wins, 10 seconds and 19 third-place finishes from 138 mounts this year.
Monroe said he is hoping Luzzi will be ready for the start of the Belmont fall meet.
