Brown has three for Lure Stakes

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Trainer Chad Brown has won 20 stakes on turf in the U.S. this year, and that’s without contributions from Camelot Kitten, Projected, and Takeover Target. That trio was part of an 11-horse field entered for turf in Saturday’s $100,000 Lure Stakes at a mile at Saratoga.
For Camelot Kitten and Takeover Target, the Lure represents their first start of the year. For Projected, the Lure is his first start since the Grade 3 Poker in June, a race he lost by a neck after being impeded late.
“For Camelot Kitten and Takeover Target, this race makes a lot of sense for them,” Brown said. “Projected is in [good] current form and looks good.”
Projected drew the rail, while Takeover Target drew post 2 and Camelot Kitten post 11.
Takeover Target went only 1 for 7 last year, with the win coming in the Grade 2 Dixie at Pimlico. Takeover Target moves up significantly on a turf course with give in the ground, and rain is in the forecast for Saturday.
Camelot Kitten went 4 for 8 last year, with a victory in the Grade 2 Hall of Fame here and a win in the Grade 2 American Turf at Churchill Downs among the highlights. He hasn’t run since finishing seventh in the Grade 1 Hollywood Derby last December.
Also entered in the Lure were Aubenas, Blacktype, Fire Away, Macagone, Our Way, Ring Weekend, Vorticity, and Zennor. Mohaymen and Red Rifle were entered for the main track only.
