In addition to his two horses entered for the Tampa Bay Derby, trainer Chad Brown is pointing seven others to stakes on Saturday at Tampa. In the Grade 2, $225,000 Hillsborough for older turf females on turf, a race Brown has won six times, he plans to run Saffron Moon and Venencia, who ran first and third in the Grade 3 Endeavour on Feb. 1. Additionally, Brown intends to start Spaliday, the 2024 Sands Point winner. The Hillsborough is also expected to attract Sparkle Blue, who won this race last year for trainer Graham Motion. In the Grade 3, $200,000 Florida Oaks, for 3-year-old fillies on turf, Brown is expected to send out Opulent Restraint and Brillante. Opulent Restraint went 2 for 3 in 2024, including a victory in the Chelsey Flower at Aqueduct. Brillante, who had two starts in Europe at 2, made a successful 3-year-old debut winning a maiden race at Tampa on Jan. 17. Nitrogen, winner of the Ginger Brew Stakes for Mark Casse, and Lush Lips, 2 for 2 this year for Brendan Walsh, are also expected for the Florida Oaks. :: Access the most trusted data and information in horse racing! He also plans to run Early Adopter, third in a pair of New York stakes last fall. Brown will not have a starter in the $125,000 Challenger Stakes on dirt, a race Skippylongstocking, trained by Saffie Joseph Jr., seeks to win for the third consecutive year. He will face Most Wanted, who won his first four starts last year before getting beat three-quarters of a length by Rattle N Roll in the Grade 2 Clark. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
