Brown finishes year with six California wins from 18 starters

ARCADIA, Calif. – Trainer Chad Brown had his final California runner of 2020 on Sunday when Miss Teheran finished fourth in the Grade 3 Robert Frankel Stakes at Santa Anita.
The race honors the late trainer who played an influential role at the start of Brown’s career. Brown, 42, worked for Frankel before starting his own stable in the 2000s. Brown was honored with the Eclipse Award as the nation’s outstanding trainer from 2016 to 2019.
This year, Brown’s shippers to California from his East Coast base resulted in 6 wins from 18 starters. Brown won four Grade 1 races in California, including with Duopoly in Saturday’s $302,500 American Oaks at Santa Anita, the filly’s first stakes win.
Brown said on Sunday that he does not anticipate having another runner in California until the spring. In 2020, the Brown-trained Raging Bull won the Grade 1 Shoemaker Mile at Santa Anita in May. On Thanksgiving weekend, Domestic Spending won the Grade 1 Hollywood Derby and Viadera won the Grade 1 Matriarch Stakes on consecutive programs at Del Mar for Brown.

“We’ll see what we’ve got in the spring,” Brown said. “As horses get ready and we plan campaigns, I’m sure something will show up.”
Duopoly was scheduled to be flown to Brown’s winter base in Florida this week. Owned by Klaravich Stable, Duopoly has won 4 of 6 starts and earned $308,034 in a career that began in May.
“She looks like she’ll develop into a nice older horse,” Brown said.
