Brown finalizing Sands Point lineup, Lady Eli works

Trainer Chad Brown has gotten off to a strong start at the Belmont fall meet, winning four races over the first three days, including the opening-day stakes with Rubilinda.
This weekend, Brown will have his sights set on the Grade 3, $400,000 Sands Point Stakes, the first graded event of the Belmont fall meet, where he will send out multiple runners. His lineup for the race as of Monday was still not finalized.
Brown said he plans to run Uni and Inflexibility in the Sands Point and he could run more from the five others he has nominated, including New Money Honey, Rymska, and Fifty Five.
All five put in workouts Sunday at Belmont Park.
Uni, coming off a runner-up finish in the Grade 2 Lake Placid at Saratoga, worked a half-mile in 50.93 seconds over the Belmont turf course in company with the French-bred 2-year-old filly Africa, who is pointing to the Miss Grillo on Oct. 1.
Inflexibility, winner of the Wonder Where Stakes at Woodbine on July 30, worked a half-mile in 48.67 in company with Roca Rojo, who is pointing to the Grade 1 First Lady at Keeneland on Oct. 7.
Rymska, unraced since winning the Grade 3 Sweetest Chant at Gulfstream in February, worked five furlongs in 1:01.18 in company with Fifty Five. Rymska was under a hammerlock from her exercise rider as she and Fifty Five got their last three furlongs in 36.22 seconds.
New Money Honey, fifth in the Grade 1 Alabama on dirt last out, worked four furlongs in 48.28 seconds in company with Lady Eli. For Lady Eli, it was her first work back since her victory in the Grade 2 Ballston Spa at Saratoga on Aug. 26. Brown has not yet decided whether he will train Lady Eli up to the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf at Del Mar on Nov. 4 or run her in the Grade 1 Flower Bowl at Belmont on Oct. 8 first.
Other notable workers for Brown on Sunday were Grand Jete and Time Test, who went five furlongs in 1:00.87 getting their last quarter in 22.51. Grand Jete, winner of the Grade 3 Eatontown Stakes earlier this summer at Monmouth, is pointing to the Grade 1 Flower Bowl here, while Time Test, second in the Grade 1 Fourstardave, is pointing to the Grade 1 Shadwell Turf Mile at Keeneland on Oct. 7.
Rubilinda was the start of Brown’s four-win opening weekend at Belmont, rallying from last to win the $100,000 Christiecat Stakes by a half-length over Smiling Causeway.
“She ran great,” said Brown, who did not have any immediate plans for Rubilinda.
The $200,000 Pebbles for 3-year-old fillies going a mile on Oct. 14 would likely be one of the possibilities for her next start.
