Brown and Clement each send out strong pair in Sunday allowance

ELMONT, N.Y. – Chad Brown and Christophe Clement have combined to win 27 of the first 80 grass races run at the Belmont Park spring/summer meet. No surprise, the two trainers seem to have all the firepower in Sunday’s third-level allowance feature, for fillies and mares going 1 1/16 miles over Belmont’s inner turf course.
Brown, who has recorded 13 of his meet-leading 16 wins on turf, sends out the duo of Bacchanalia and Miss Teheran. Clement, whose 14 wins of the meet have all come on turf, sends out Speaktomeofsummer and Call Me Love.

Bacchanalia, a 5-year-old daughter of Uncle Mo, is looking to bounce back from an eighth-place finish at Gulfstream in the Grade 3 The Very One at 1 3/16 miles. Brown doesn’t feel the distance or the wide trip Bacchanalia had that day were the main culprits in her poor finish.
“That filly lost her composure in the paddock, post parade, and in the gate,” Brown said. “She really blew up on us, so I’m going to draw a line through that.”
Brown noted that while the filly has been training at Monmouth, he shipped her to Belmont early in the week to get accustomed to her surroundings.
“You’ll see a much better race from that filly if she keeps it together,” Brown said.
Irad Ortiz Jr. rides Bacchanalia from post 5.
Miss Teheran, a 5-year-old Irish-bred daughter of Teofilo, began her campaign with an allowance win at Gulfstream going a mile. She, too, had a wide trip when fourth, beaten a length, in the Grade 2 Hillsborough at Tampa Bay Downs on March 6.
“She’s had some tough trips,” Brown said. “Getting her back in an allowance is probably the right move for her at this point. Both horses seem like they fit, though there are not many horses in there.”
Miss Teheran figures to try and come from off the pace under Javier Castellano.
Speaktomeofsummer won the Grade 2 Lake Placid at Saratoga last July. She went winless in four starts the remainder of the year, which concluded with a third-place finish in the Tropical Park Oaks at Gulfstream.
Clement said the extended break for this daughter of Summer Front was by design.
“She’s not quite at her peak yet, but she’s on her way there,” Clement said. “I thought this was a fun way to come back, not to go in a graded stakes, even if it is like a graded stakes.”
Joel Rosario rides Speaktomeofsummer from post 4.
Call Me Love is 0 for 6 over the last year. She was a strong second to Rushing Fall in the Grade 3 Beaugay here last June, and was beaten a neck by Starship Jubilee in the Grade 2 Ballston Spa at Saratoga in July. She is coming off a last-place finish in the Plenty of Grace Stakes on April 11 at Aqueduct.
“She’s not the most consistent one,” Clement said. “One will be close to the pace, one will be coming from off the pace.”
Call Me Love, who breaks from the rail, will likely be close to the pace under Junior Alvarado.
Tasting the Stars, a restricted stakes winner when last seen in October, goes out first time for John Kimmel.
No Mo Lady and Bramble Queen complete the field.
