Brothers steal the show on Pennsylvania's Day at the Races

The full brothers Midtowncharlybrown and Midnightcharly raced as an entry for the third consecutive time on Saturday in the $100,000 Banjo Picker stakes at Parx Racing.
In April, Midnightcharly won the Lyman Stakes at Parx, while Midtowncharlybrown finished fifth.
In June, Midtowncharlybrown won the Chocolate Town Sprint at Penn National with Midnightcharly third.
On Saturday, Midtowncharlybrown and Midnightcharly finished first and second, respectively, separated by a neck in the Banjo Picker, the feature race on a five-stakes Pennsylvania’s Day At the Races program.
Midtowncharlybrown, 5, and Midnightcharly, 4, were bred in Pennsylvania by Godric LLC, are owned by Uptowncharlybrown Stud and Godric, and are trained by Eddie Coletti Jr. Both horses are by Uptowncharlybrown and out of the mare Torchwood.
Midtowncharlybrown broke sharply under Roberto Rosado in the Banjo Picker while Midnightcharly stumbled at the start and dropped far back.
Midtowncharlybrown and Cowboy Mz hooked up in speed duel, laying down fractions of 22.13 and 44.73 seconds. Midtowncharlybrown got the better of the fight in midstretch and inched clear.
He held off the inside late runs of Midnightcharly and The Man – who had won the Banjo Picker the past two years. Midnightcharly and The Man were separated by a head for second.
The entry paid $4, $3.20, and $2.10. Midtowncharlybrown was timed in 1:10.64.
Midtowncharlybrown is now 10 for 20 lifetime. Midnightcharly is 5 for 11.
Midnight Poker was pulled up early in the race with an injury and was vanned off.
Someday Jones clear best in Roanoke
Someday Jones, patiently handled early by jockey Frankie Pennington, seized the lead from pacesetting Navy Commander in upper stretch and won the $100,000 Roanoke Stakes going away by 6 1/4 lengths.
A 6-year-old son of Smarty Jones trained by John Servis, Someday Jones paid $4.40 in the 1 1/16-mile race for Pennsylvania-breds. He was timed in 1:44.07 and is now 9 for 22 in his career.
Grasshoppin, who chased Navy commander early, finished second. It was three lengths farther back to Navy Commander in third.

Imply finally wins a Mrs. Penny Stakes
Imply had been beaten a neck in each of the last two runnings of the $100,000 Mrs. Penny Stakes but broke through Saturday with a two-length victory in the 1 1/16-mile turf race for Pennsylvania-bred fillies and mares.
Part of a 1-5-favored entry owned by Barlar LLC and trained by Bernie Houghton, 6-year-old Imply is now 4 for 4 this year. The Mrs. Penny is her sixth statebred stakes win.
A daughter of E Dubai, Imply paid $2.40 to win. She was timed over good ground in 1:48.47.
Imply moved to contention on the far turn under jockey Julio Hernandez, then took the lead from pacesetting Shemakesmehappy in upper stretch before drawing away. Pink Elephant, who made a bold run on the far turn to come up inside Imply, finished second. Shemakesmehappy was third in the nine-horse field.
Afleet Tizzy wins first stakes
Afleet Tizzy ran down the leaders in midstretch and pulled away to win the $100,000 Dr. Teresa Garofalo by one length. Sweet Bye and Bye, the 5-2 favorite, rallied belatedly to be second.
A 5-year-old daughter of Tizway trained by Tyler Servis and ridden by Angel Rodriguez, Afleet Tizzy paid $17.20 and was timed in 1:10.52 in the six-furlong sprint for Pa.-bred fillies and mares.
The Garofalo was the first stakes win for Afleet Tizzy, who is now 6 for 25 with 10 second-place finishes.
Hollywood Talent upsets Jenney Handicap
Hollywood Talent scored a 12-1 upset over 38-1 Amblin Man in the afternoon’s final stakes, the $100,00 Marshall Jenney handicap, a five-furlong turf sprint.
Smokin Nitro, the 3-5 favorite, came away with the lead entering the stretch but began to weaken as Hollywood talent rallied by on his outside and Amblin Man came up the rail. At the wire, they were separated by a nose. Smokin Nitro ended up fifth in the nine-horse field.
Hollywood Talent stopped the timer over a good course in 59.79 seconds. The Juan Carlos Guerrero-trained 8-year-old paid $26.20 and topped a $2 exacta worth $646.
A gelded son of Talent Search, Hollywood Talent is now 10 for 38.
The Jenney was Rosado’s second stakes win of the day.
