Brooklynsway on track for Princess Elizabeth

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – After a game second-place finish behind Conquest Harlanate in the Grade 3 Mazarine Stakes on Oct. 5 at Woodbine, Muskoka Stakes winner Brooklynsway is firmly on track for a start at that track in Sunday’s $250,000 Princess Elizabeth Stakes for Canadian-bred 2-year-old fillies.
Trainer John Ross said he was pleased with how Brooklynsway responded in her first test around two turns in the Mazarine.
“I was very happy with her for her first time going two turns,” he said. “She even got more out of it. She galloped out really good, too, so I was very happy with that first effort.”
Ross said Brooklynsway has been training well since the Mazarine and put in a key work for the Princess Elizabeth on Oct. 19, covering six furlongs handily in 1:13.40.
“She’s been doing great,” he said. “She had a three-quarter-mile work and galloped out good to seven-eighths. We’ve been getting her relaxed in the morning. The plan is working out good, and you can see the difference yourself.”
◗ Michael Doyle recorded his 1,000th career training victory Saturday, when Evangeline’s Hope came from off the pace to win the finale, a $20,000 claiming event for fillies and mares. The 63-year-old earned the Sovereign Award as Canada’s top trainer in 1984. Doyle won the Canadian Oaks in 1989 with Blondeinamotel and also trained Wild Gale, who finished third in both the Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes in 1993.
