Brooklynsway might face males next

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – After her victory in the Princes Elizabeth Stakes on Nov. 2 at Woodbine, trainer John Ross said Brooklynsway would be pointed to the $150,000 Ontario Lassie Stakes on Nov. 30, but he added that running her against males in the $250,000 Coronation Futurity on Nov. 29 is a possibility.
“Her numbers were pretty nice,” he said. “She’s a pretty happy filly, and she’s come out of the [Princess Elizabeth] real good. I’m going to take a look at [the Coronation Futurity] and maybe consider it, but definitely the Ontario Lassie.”
Ross said he was happy with Brooklynsway’s performance in the Princess Elizabeth, a race in which everything went according to plan.
“Our plan has been to take her back and keep her relaxed,” he said. “When she had to make a move, the thing I liked about it was the whip wasn’t even turned up. It was just a strong hand ride with a little tap. She came through the hole very bravely and really shot through with a nice kick, and I was very happy about that.”
After her next race, Brooklynsway will get the month of December off at Payson Park Training Center in Florida before returning to training in mid-January, Ross said.
“I’ll do the same kind of thing I did with Lexie Lou, lots of foundation,” Ross said. “[Payson Park] is a great training center for babies. We have paddocks beside our barn that we can turn them out. She can go out in the paddock for a month and kick her heels up and roll around.”
