Brooklynsway digs in to win Bison City

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Brooklynsway ($17.30) dug in gamely under Emma-Jayne Wilson to nose out Galina Point for the win in Sunday’s $250,000 Bison City Stakes, the third leg of the Canadian Triple Tiara at Woodbine.
Green Doctor set a lively pace in the 1 1/16-mile route, while Brooklynsway and Galina Point raced wide in midpack. Brooklynsway and Galina Point both made a bid to the lead in the stretch, and the former prevailed in a time of 1:44.06.
London Tower, the 1-2 favorite off a second in the Woodbine Oaks, finished another neck back in third in the seven-horse field of Canadian-bred 3-year-old fillies.
Brooklynsway was coming off back-to-back subpar showings in the Fury Stakes and the Oaks.
“She’s a funny filly,” Wilson said. “She can be a little challenging some days. As soon as we broke, I could tell that she was in the race. The last couple races just weren’t her A game, and she came back with a big effort today. She was traveling along real nice on the outside. Galina Point loomed up and even got by us. She just dug in, and that’s the game and ferocious filly that we know and love. She fought on and came back on to win. It was really impressive.”
Brooklynsway earned $150,000 for owner-trainer John Ross. Last year, Ross sold the future Canadian Horse of the Year Lexie Lou to Gary Barber, the owner of Galina Point.
