Broberg decides to give New York a try

ELMONT, N.Y. – Karl Broberg, the leading trainer in the country annually in wins from 2014-19, is setting up shop in New York.
Broberg, a dominant fixture in the Midwest and South, has four horses stabled at Belmont Park including Elle’s Town, who is entered in Saturday’s $100,000 Floral Park Stakes for fillies and mares on turf.

“We started off with four head there,” Broberg said. “I’m eager to get into the claim box. I’ve always been a huge fan of New York racing, it’s my favorite circuit. I’ve been losing so much money this year because of the pandemic, why not make it a little worse?
“If I didn’t do it eventually, I was never going to do it. It’s been a rough year by our standards, so I said it’s time to try a couple of new venues.”
One of those new venues is Hawthorne.

Elle’s Town, a daughter of Speightstown, looks a bit overmatched in the Floral Park, though she is coming off a second-level allowance win at Remington Park.
“It’s a little bit of a stretch,” Broberg said. “She has no conditions. Six furlongs is what she really wants to do. That’s a tough venue to win at when you’re coming from the regions that I am. You generally don’t see the whole Remington Park to Belmont Park angle work very well.”
