Broadway Run back on favorite stage for Caress Stakes

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Broadway Run won two of her first three career starts, including the Coronation Cup here last July. She has gone winless in five starts since.
On Saturday, Broadway Run will be back at Saratoga for the $200,000 Caress Stakes, which like the Coronation Cup is run at 5 1/2 furlongs.
While she has not won since the Coronation Cup, Broadway Run has three seconds, a third, and a narrow fourth in stakes company. She was beaten a nose by Fire Key in the License Fee Stakes in April at Belmont and then was beaten three-quarters of a length when fourth to Significant Form in the Grade 3 Intercontinental at Belmont on June 6.
Fire Key and Significant Form will be among her chief rivals Saturday.
Trainer John Terranova felt the yielding turf may have hurt Broadway Run in the License Fee. In the Intercontinental, she may have been too close to the pace going seven furlongs.
“It was a much stronger group. She wasn’t beaten very far and still ran a solid race, probably a better, faster race than she had before,” Terranova said. “So, she’s progressing. She’s been really honest and consistent throughout.”

Others expected in the Caress include Factorofwon, Jc’s Shooting Star, Miss Gossip, Mominou, Morticia, and Mrs. Ramona G.
◗ Heavy rain hit Saratoga just before Wednesday’s card, prompting the New York Racing Association to cancel the scheduled steeplechase race and move the other five scheduled turf races to the main track. The steeplechase race was rescheduled for Sunday and will go as race 1, with post time moved up to 12:30 p.m. Eastern.
