Briviesca takes Dowager over soft going

LEXINGTON, Ky. - Briviesca wrested control from a trio of front-runners leaving the third and final turn of the Rood and Riddle Dowager Stakes before proceeding to a 1 1/4-length victory on a soggy Sunday afternoon at Keeneland.
Owned by Darpat S.L. Stables and trained by Bill Mott, Briviesca returned $8.80 as third choice in a field of eight fillies and mares. Cape Town Lass, the 3-1 second choice, finished second, another two lengths before Louve Royale, the 2-1 favorite. The winning time for 1 1/2 miles was 2:38.77 over a soft turf course.
The stakes victory was the second of the Keeneland fall meet for jockey John Jacinto, a Kentucky newcomer. Jacinto, 29, won the Grade 1 Breeders' Futurity aboard Dawn of War on opening weekend.
"At the half-mile pole I had plenty of horse left and she really wanted to take off," said Jacinto. "When I let her go, she flew."
Briviesca, a British-bred 4-year-old by Peintre Celebre, now has two wins and four seconds in 10 starts since being imported to the United States.
