Brilliant Speed gets first two mares in foal

DRF Breeding Staff|Mar 04, 2013

Grade 1 winner Brilliant Speed, who is standing his initial season at Three Chimneys Farm in Midway, Ky., is represented by his first two mares confirmed in foal.

Grade 1 winner Dreams Gallore and stakes winner Lacie Slew are both owned by Charlotte Weber's Live Oak Plantation, which campaigned Brilliant Speed as a homebred.

Dreams Gallore, a 17-year-old Silver Ghost mare, captured the Grade 1 Mother Goose Stakes and Grade 3 Honeybee Stakes as a sophomore. She was also second in the Kentucky Oaks and Grade 1 Coaching Club American Oaks, eventually retiring with earnings of $588,615.

Dreams Gallore is the dam of three winners from as many starters, including stakes-placed Gallant Dreams.

Out of the winning Fit to Fight mare Fitnah, Dreams Gallore is a half-sister to Grade 3 winners Fateful Dream and Absent Friend, stakes-placed Giant Chieftan, and stakes producer Fantail.

Lacie Slew, a 7-year-old daughter of Mineshaft, won the Maryland Racing Media Stakes last season. Placed in two other stakes, she retired with earnings of $259,642.

She is out of the Grade 3-placed stakes-winning Editor's Note mare Lacie Girl.

Brilliant Speed, a 5-year-old son of late Three Chimneys resident and prominent sire Dynaformer, won the Grade 1 Blue Grass Stakes on Polytrack and finished third in the Belmont Stakes on dirt in the spring of 2011.

Switched back to the turf, he won the Grade 3 Saranac Stakes that summer and finished second in the Grade 1 Jamaica Handicap and third in the Breeders' Cup Turf. He recorded two additional Grade 1 placings on turf last year, finishing third in the Woodford Reserve Turf Classic Stakes and the Sword Dancer Invitational Stakes. He retired with 10 overall stakes wins or placings for earnings of $1,203,531.

Out of the Gone West mare Speed Succeeds, Brilliant Speed is standing his initial season for a fee of $10,000.
