BreezeFigs Quick-Pix, Saturday, September 9

Bob Fierro|Sep 08, 2006

.

Delaware Park, , Maiden Special, 6 Furlongs

This could be a key race, and there is likely to be a scramble in the pari-mutuels for the favorite. Six of these colts came out of 2-year-old sales, four are making their first starts. We like three of them--two of them firsters. I'm a Numbers Guy comes out of the classy FTFFEB sale with an enormous stride length (24.79 feet) and a whopping nine-over-par BreezeFig--good connections and well sold at $225,000, he is by a sire who fires firsters. Bigalow comes out of the slightly more modest OBSMAR sale with a six-over-Par BreezeFig and a much shorter stride length, but should be in the mix. Second-timer I'm Outspoken, who showed good speed in his debut and is moving up in class, is a good gimmick play here as well.

Golden Gate, , Maiden Special, 5 Furlongs

This race is a perfect example of the need for BreezeFigs, having attacted Quite a Rush, a filly owned and trained by the Lost in the Fog folks, and that colt was a 2-year-old sale graduate with a similar BreezeFig profile. Can lightning strike again? Perhaps. She's been working well but she shows two completely different BreezeFigs at two sales this year: At the classy OBSFEB sale she posted a monster Group 1, six-over-Par BreezeFig with a 24.56 foot stride length. But, she did not sell, failing to attract her reserve after bidding stopped at 80k. She was wheeled back four months later at EASMAY where she went a furlong further, but threw in a bit of a stinker, racking up a Group 3, two-under-Par BreezeFig with a much shorter stride length. The consignor obviously wanted to sell her, and she was sold for 70k, less than her OBSFEB final bid. Still, her connections are no dummies--maybe she had a bad day, who knows? She's likely to be a short price, but she is in there to win, and you should be, too.
