BreezeFigs Quick-Pix for Saturday, September 7, 2019 by Bob Fierro & Jay Kilgore
With the completion of the Labor Day card, the 3-year-old BreezeFigs have gone away as usual. The final four days produced four 3-year-old BreezeFigs maiden winners at Gulfstream, Monmouth (two, including a BreezeFigs exacta) and Woodbine. Who didn’t win was our Pick last week, Justinian, who got off sloppily and was rushed into contention after which he folded like—well, you choose the analogy. On the other hand, there were 18 BreezeFigs 2-year-old maiden winners, including our stone-cold BreezeFigs exacta Pick at Saratoga where Structor came home on top of Sul Moon for a surprisingly generous $5.90 for a buck exacta. Two nice colts, watch them. The other 18 winners came at: Arlington, Colonial (three, including a first-time starter in a stakes), Delaware, Del Mar, Gulfstream, Indiana, Kentucky Downs, Remington (two), Thistledown, Timonium, Saratoga (three others besides our Pick) and Woodbine. There were also a bevy of stakes winners in that group. Today’s 2-year-old card is all over the place, but not much of the maiden crowd has the quality we look for in first-time starters except for our Pick, see below. Good luck!
If you’d like to learn a little more about how we come up with BreezeFigs, take a look at our new website by clicking here: www.biodatatrack.com and click on the tab BreezeFigs at the top of the page. In there you will find a link to a major study of how over 17,000 BreezeFigs horses from the sales 2007 through 2013 have succeeded on the racetrack based on Group and stride length. You can also access that study by clicking this link: www.biodatatrack.com/BreezeFigs-Study.pdf.
Here’s Saturday’s Pick:
Belmont Park, 5th Race, Maiden Special Weight, 6 ½ Furlongs (Dirt)
This could be a key race with two of the three BreezeFigs colts strong contenders against some pricey and highly bred guys Ironically, each of the BreezeFigs colts breezed on the same day at EASMAY. First timer Sagamore Mischief came out of the sale with a 200k price tag and a two-over-Par Group 2 profile with a 23.73 foot stride length (SL), just a tad short of average that day at a furlong. We liked the way he moved and may have an advantage over the likes of Unprecedented, a 220k graduate whom we picked in his debut and who ran well enough but was sent too soon and tired. Still, if handled right he could be tough given his 11-over-Par Group 1 profile at a quarter mile that featured a 25.48 foot SL, well over a foot-and-a-third longer than average that day. King of American has had some trouble in his first two starts and he hasn’t lived up to his one-over-Par Group 1 profile where his 24.32 foot SL was almost half a foot longer than average at a furlong. We are looking for value here and think at 10-to-1 and 6-to-1 respectively Sagamore Mischief and Unprecedented should be keyed into your gimmicks while King of American at 30-to-1 should probably not. Good luck!
