BreezeFigs Quick-Pix Saturday, September 5, 2020 by Bob Fierro & Jay Kilgore
We will forgive those who pounded Splash Cash down from 8-to-1 to 5-2 because our Pick last week blew the doors off wire-to-wire and we will accept that. We will also note that the same connections came back the next day at Ellis Park with Agog, who was a handy winner as favorite in her second start. These two were among the 18 juveniles BreezeFigs maidens who won last week in a bevy of activity. The others came at Churchill, Delaware (two, one a BreezeFigs exacta), Del Mar (three, including a BreezeFigs exacta), Gulfstream (four including a BreezeFigs super and BreezeFigs exacta), Laurel, Monmouth, Penn, Presque Isle, and Saratoga (two, including a BreezeFigs exacta). What surprised us, however, was that 13 of the 3-year-old BreezeFigs maidens came through last week, and that prompted a change of plans for after this weekend. The winners came at Canterbury, Charles Town, Churchill (two), Delaware, Del Mar, Finger Lakes, Gulfstream, Parx, Remington (two), and Saratoga (two). The change of plans is that we usually drop the 3-year-old card after Labor Day each year but because these horses missed up to six months of their career due to the pandemic we are keeping it until the end of the year. Meanwhile, we have no first-timers on the 3-year-old card that intrigue us for today but a couple of juveniles are worth looking at, see below. Stay safe and good luck!
If you’d like to learn a little more about how we come up with BreezeFigs, take a look at our new website by clicking here: www.biodatatrack.com and click on the tab BreezeFigs at the top of the page. In there you will find a link to a major study of how over 17,000 BreezeFigs horses from the sales 2007 through 2013 have succeeded on the racetrack based on Group and stride length. You can also access that study by clicking this link: www.biodatatrack.com/BreezeFigs-Study.pdf.
Here are Saturday’s Pix:
2-Year-Olds
Del Mar, 1st Race, Maiden Special Weight, 5 ½ Furlongs (Dirt)
She’s not the smoothest mover you will see but Queengol has a stride length (SL) advantage based on her two-foot-longer-than-average 25.84 feet in her Group 2 performance at OBSMAR. On the other hand, You’re All Talk showed a 24.53 foot SL at OBSAPR which was a third of a foot longer than average but she had a four-under-Par Group 3 BreezeFig. We would stick with Queengol as a gimmick key here.
Charles Town, 1st Race, Maiden Special Weight, 4 ½ Furlongs (Dirt)
Guapa Chica tossed in a one-over-Par Group 1 effort at EASMAY where her 23.98 foot SL was just over average for fillies that day at a furlong. They’ve listed her at 7-to-5 and she looks like a good bet in a race which is scheduled to go off at the same time as the Kentucky Derby. Whatever. Good luck!
