BreezeFigs Quick-Pix Saturday, September 26, 2020 by Bob Fierro & Jay Kilgore

webmaster|Sep 25, 2020

The rains came again but this time our Pick key could not care less as Pretty Lori rolled to a monster win last Saturday at Laurel after being hammered down to odds-on. She was one of 11 BreezeFigs 2-year-olds to break their maidens in a week where gimmicks were the rule at Gulfstream: four broke their maidens there, two leading off BreezeFigs exactas (on the same day, Saturday) and another kicking off a BreezeFigs triple. There was another BreezeFigs exacta among the two winners at Belmont with the rest of the winners coming at Churchill (two), Indiana and Pimlico. Five 3-year-old BreezeFigs maidens won at Belmont, Gulfstream (two, including yet another BreezeFigs exacta), Presque Isle and Remington. Today’s cards are intriguing and we have one in each division to contemplate, both of which are the last race on the card, see below. Stay safe and good luck!

If you’d like to learn a little more about how we come up with BreezeFigs, take a look at our new website by clicking here: www.biodatatrack.com and click on the tab BreezeFigs at the top of the page. In there you will find a link to a major study of how over 17,000 BreezeFigs horses from the sales 2007 through 2013 have succeeded on the racetrack based on Group and stride length. You can also access that study by clicking this link: www.biodatatrack.com/BreezeFigs-Study.pdf.

Here are Saturday’s Pix:

3-Year-Olds

Churchill Downs, 9th Maiden Special Weight, 1 1/16 Miles (Turf)

War Like Goddess comes into this one with the breeding and connections to arch the eyebrow, but the key here is that if she is genuine she ought to be a bargain given her OBSJUN performance last year where she racked up a three-over-Par Group 2 ticket with a 26.17 foot stride length (SL), two feet longer than average for fillies that day at a furlong. If she is in one piece, she could be a nice key.

2-Year-Olds

Arlington Park, 9th Race, Maiden Special Weight, 5 Furlongs (Turf)

She’s stuck on the rail and she’s not the smoothest mover in the world but American Bourbon showed enough promise at OBSJUN this year with a six-over-Par Group 1 performance that featured a 25.45 foot SL which was over a foot and three quarters longer than average. That performance merits high consideration. She’s up against a tough second-time starter in Music City Star whose even-Par Group 2 profile from OBSAPR featured a slightly above average 24.39 foot SL. Princess Stella (IRE) may have had a nice one-over-Par Group 2 ticket at OBSJUN but she breezed at the same distance on the same day as American Bourbon and her 22.65 foot SL was a foot shorter than average. She’s My Ride did not impress with her five-under-Par Group 4 performance at OBSAPR where her 23.91 foot SL was a third-of-a-foot shorter than average. It’s a tough one but American Bourbon and Music City Star look like mix and match gimmick plays. Good luck!
